StoresOnline Day 7: Attending Bootcamp

May 10th 2007 11:04 am

Went to their one-day "Bootcamp." This is another day of training (free) to help get you started.

I must say, I was impressed. All of the information they gave is available in their online tutorials, so they really don’t have to do it. But they’re trying to make the process as simple as possible.

We spent about an hour and a half going over ways to select a product to sell and find a distributor. Then we dove into basics of the software and setting up a store.

They said all the right things about how to market your store: using your keyword phrase in appropriate places, submitting to directories, etc. The StoresOnline website went down a couple of times during the presentation, which wasn’t that great, but overall it was a good day.

We had two eBay Powersellers in the group, which is impressive. I mean, if they’re already making a lot of money selling things online which probably means they have an eBay store and are getting lots of traffic, and then on top of that they purchase a StoresOnline package; that’s saying something.

One thing I would have done differently: the last section of the day was on eBay. They showed the basics of setting up an auction, etc. However the StoresOnline software has a direct interface to eBay; you can automatically set up an auction from your products. They didn’t show this feature at all. Maybe they consider it an advanced topic, but I definitely would have first demonstrated the manual way and then set up an auction automatically.

Here’s a hint: if the conference center brings in cookies, don’t wait to grab one or they’ll be gone :(
